about the author

Tammy is the wife of Pastor Rick Brown, founder of Healed and Set Free International Ministry, women’s retreat speaker, and a homemaker.  She and her husband Rick, are the parents of two children: Caleb and Jessica; they live in Idaho Falls, Idaho.  The Lord has led the Browns to establish two Calvary Chapel churches in Eastern Idaho, as well as a Christian school.  In the summer of 1998, God led Tammy to write Healed and Set Free…from lingering hurts Bible Study that she might comfort hurting people with the comfort she has received from God, by learning to forgive the unacceptable.  She has a God-given desire to see others set free from past heartaches and hurts through God’s truth and love.  Tammy’s private story of God healing her life is told in this study, along with other painful stories shared by women and men who have completed the Healed and Set Free... from lingering hurts Bible Study.

“First as a child, then as a new Christian, then later as a Pastor’s wife, I tried to forget the pain too deep for words, but the emotional memories kept me in shackles..."

The private overwhelming memories of repeated sexual abuse in my early childhood, then later being date raped as a teenage virgin, and my later struggles with bulimia caused me to suffer in silence.  I felt like a big zero, and my life seemed to be in tatters.  Little by little the lingering hurts began to rule my emotions, affecting my outlook on life, affecting my approach to parenting, and affecting my ministry as a Pastor’s wife. Hurts can cripple, damage and paralyze our mind and soul, creating a person we don’t want to be.  I had become a prisoner to the unacceptable hurts, which lingered in my heart. Causing not only me but also my family to be in shackles. The Bible say in Proverbs 14:1,"Every wise woman builds her house, but the foolish pulls it down with her hands."  Suddenly, I was thrown onto a path of reality.  I had to face the fact that I was a self-destructive woman going nowhere in life. I had to “get real” with who I was and who I was becoming. Satan’s evil desire was to keep me in those painful shackles of paralyzing shame, out of control anger, deep seeded bitterness, and discontentment that had hardened my heart and interfered with my future and the happiness God had planned for me.

I had doubts of ever experiencing real freedom from the emotional turmoil I had lived with for over 20 years.  I then learned that God’s open arms had been there the entire time ready to heal and set me free.  I just needed to trust those open arms with my pain which was too deep for words.  It wasn’t until I opened my hidden heart and decided to “get real” with God where the hurts still lingered and stopped giving a false performance to God that I learned life-changing TOOLS.  God, who has been faithful to move me forward by showing me four simple yet powerful TOOLS to unlock the shackles from the shame, anger and hollow feelings that unacceptable hurts bring.  Which are {SEE, GIVE, FORGET, and BE SET FREE} Christ Jesus, my Savior, taught me that He is the only One that heals the brokenhearted.  It’s not ourselves or ungodly counsel. The Bible says, He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds. His love and truth has set me completely free from the shackles that once enslaved my soul to the unacceptable hurts left over in my heart.  Satan works through hurt, guilt and fear, to steal, kill and destroy lives. Christ has come to offer us the abundant life.  To get out of the shackles we have to WANT to get out of the shackles, as well as to have the True Healer release us from them.  Invite Him into the dark room where you hide your pain.  Pray and ask Christ to show you the hidden hurts that need to be healed.
